Our search for godwit AJD

We continue our search for the godwit with the flag AJD, as he usually returns to Foxton from migration about a month ago. This is our 18th year of study and we so much hope he is okay and will return, even if a bit late. He normally arrives first at Foxton, but after four searches over the last month we have failed to find him. It is possible he has lost his flag, as it was wearing, and if this has happened, we will only find him here at Whanganui later as we can get close enough to photograph his metal band and read the lettering.

It has been nice to see lots of juvenile birds arriving, a sign of a good breeding season in Alaska. They look so fresh and clean, just three or four months old.
